Unhappy need help!

ok, I just recompiled my kernel to 2.4.8 and it boot up fine the first time, then i went and changed my lilo around a bit so i could have vga=791 instead of vga=normal. Well after doing this my screen goes black after the lilo prompt so I put in my original boot floppy to get going again. Now when i boot up with the floppy it says that there are bad or dupe inodes (maybe it said sectors) on /dev/hda1 and then asks if i want to log into single user mode, so I do. In single user mode its only read-only, and I remember reading somewhere theres a way to make it read-write but I can't find it any more, and now theres no way I can change my lilo back to vga=normal.

So I suppose my questions is, how do I change my lilo.conf?

ok, first you want to fix your file system, hence letting you log in as single user, you should be able to run 'fsck /dev/hda5' or which ever partitino it is, to fix it as best as possible.

After that i presume you can override the lilo options on the boot line. try boting to 'linux vga=normal' instead of just 'linux'. if you're using the graphical boot menu, i think pressing ctrlX or esc or somethign should knock back to a prompt. Not totally sure that will work, worth a go.

You can always boot up to rescue mode from an install cd and then change the mounted file system (rh puts it under /mnt/sysimage i think) and then reconfigure lilo from there.
