Need driver for Lexmark X4270 printer/fax combo

Hi,

My wife's PC is an e-Machines, about 8 or 9 years old. The printer/fax works well under Windoze, but she hasn't been able to print since installing Ubuntu. I did a search for linux and ubuntu on the page for her model X4270 under Downloads in Lexmark, but neither word was found. Do they just refuse to get out of bed with Uncle Bill? Can somebody help or should we just get her a new printer/fax? They're probably cheaper than new ink these days.

Will replies come to my personal e-mail, or will I just need to check back here every day or so?

Lexmark is known to be one of the worst manufacturers when it comes to working with Linux. You will probably have to use an older driver. You may be able to find a Linux driver on their website for Linux, but my search didn't find one. Lexmark has a tendency to basically reuse the same drivers over and over again anyway, so it is likely that there is one that will work just fine with your printer.

Sadly Lexmark is not known for supporting Linux. You may have to get yourself one that do has drivers

Thanks for the replies. We've resolved the issue by just deciding to buy another printer. I'll now try to figure out how to mark this thread closed. ;-)

Also with a lexmark printer. X5470. A USB printer that didn't even come with a USB cable. I gave up hope on finding / using drivers for it in linux many years ago. Get something with the IPP stuff and just network to your printer. I would have said postscript, but that's a standard abandoned by a lot of manufacturers many years ago.
