need c compiler

Hi,
Is there any simple way to download GCC and then install it,
I donot have internet connection at home, first i download it and then bring it to home (tar files) to install.
I know that it is very easy to install these type of packages if someone have net connection.
Is there any old version which should be easy to install.
I need only C compiler for installation of other application.

thanks

Are you sure it isn't installed already? Many (if not all) distros install it by default.

Exactly. Which distro do you use?

Try this to check from terminal:
Code:
gcc --version
If this doesn't give you a gcc version installed, the best option is to find a gcc version pre-packaged for your distribution.

I think all distros include it on the DVD/CDs. Just load it from there if you haven't already (see above).

glibc (the c library needed with gcc) is one of the most difficult packages to build from source. Plus if you don't have gcc already, you can't build either because you need gcc to compile the code. A catch 22 situation. Locate a precompiled package. Your install disk should have it.

Please put your distro in your user profile. Also learn to use your package manager. It is much easier installing packages that way and locating what packages are available. You don't need to install everything from source.
