need assistance to change a user password on my sql


Cannot change a user password om mysql
Trying to change the cactiuser password but no luck so far
Help appreciated.

This is what I did:

mysql> use mysql;
Database changed
mysql> SELECT host,user,password FROM user where user='cactiuser';
+-----------+-----------+-------------------------------------------+
| host | user | password |
+-----------+-----------+-------------------------------------------+
| localhost | cactiuser | *9CDE1A09ED38FCFD4696D1AA82E4E1EE2F26270D |
+-----------+-----------+-------------------------------------------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

mysql> update user set password=PASSWORD("cacti") where User='cactiuser';
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.01 sec)
Rows matched: 1 Changed: 0 Warnings: 0

mysql> flush privileges;
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec)

mysql> SELECT host,user,password FROM user where user='cactiuser';
+-----------+-----------+-------------------------------------------+
| host | user | password |
+-----------+-----------+-------------------------------------------+

Hi,

I don't think anything went wrong. The password given (cacti in this example) is probably the same as the current password.

sql does find a row (Rows matched: 1), but it does not change the password (Changed: 0).

Try it with a different password and see what happens.
