Need a step by step guide to installing Adobe Flash 10.0.22.87

I spent the ENTIRE last evening combing the internet and this forum looking for a comprehensive, easy to understand, STEP BY STEP guide to installing the newest version of Adobe Flash. Until I do, I cannot use You Tube, various gaming sites and many other frivolous things I like to use my computer for. I NEED HELP! Currently I'm running version 10.0.0 d569 and no matter what I do that number won't change to 10.0.22.87. Assistance would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I DID read the 2 links suggested at the beginning of this page and I DID read the 2nd link on installing new programs but this linux stuff is like a foreign language to me! Someone bought me this EEE PC 2GB Surf with linux for an educational experience but it's been extremely confusing and frustrating.

From your description it sounds like you're trying to install the Flash Player plugin, not the Flash application. If that's the case, all you need to do is copy the dynamic library (the libflashplayer.so file) to the correct place.

I use Firefox as my browser with a 64-bit Linux, so I have it here: /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so. (That location works for other browsers based on the Mozilla engine, such as konqueror.) With a 32-bit OS,it would be /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so.

But for your specific problem, you'll need to tell us with which browser(s) you wish to use the plugin. Or, of course, if my supposition is incorrect, which instructions you've been following to install the Flash development system. (For which you, presumably, paid Adobe's fee, and received their support. So why aren't you asking them?)

<edit>
Note: That libflashplayer.so file is the beta one from the Adobe development lab. I don't know if Adobe has released an "official" 64-bit plugin.

What distribution is on the netbook?
What did you do so far?
Did you used the packet manager?
Isn't flash working at all? (since you have version 10.0.0 d569 installed.)

It would help if you would add your distro to your profile. The exact steps depend a lot on what distro/package management you're using.

In general, you download the installer, untar it, and then run it as root. You do need to know the location of your browser files, usually /usr/lib/<browser>

What steps have you already tried? What happened?

Details are important.

Thanks so much for all of your replies...Im in WAY over my head. Can't answer half of your questions b/c I don't know what you mean and the other half that I can answer after I've taken a significant amt of time to type script and copying and pasting, mozilla seemingly freezes SO on that note, I give up. Maybe I'll meet someone here in town who understands this stuff and will simply surrender the computer for updating. Take care and again thanks for your time.

texaschick74,

Before you give up, please check out these eee and linux newbie friendly links:
http://wiki.eeeuser.com/
http://forum.eeeuser.com/

There is plenty of help out there (and I love my eee 701, even though it is OLD now.)

Also, the last time I needed to upgrade my Adobe flash (and the stock eee has it already installed) I just went to a site that used flash (any site), R-clicked in the flash player window, selected "Upgrade to flash ....." and it just happened.

Have fun.
