Personally, I'd recommend downloading and looking at Mandriva, as they really have the easiest to use front end configuration utilities (as rated by several independant reviewers). If it is to your liking, buy it. I use it on one of my servers for game fests, running the game servers, file sharing for game updates, printing, etc. It uses Samba & NFS for file sharing, Samba & Cups for printer sharing, etc. I also set up the file system using LVM, so that if I need to add more space, I can just blug a drive in and expand.
My server is a Dual PIII 550Mhz system (6 years old). It ran for 439 days on Mandrake 8.1 before reimaging to Mandriva 2006.
