I was wondering if anybody could help me out. I'm currently using Fedora Core 5 and for some reason it's the most unstable OS I have ever used. Every time I use it at least one application freezes up. The only thing that hasn't froze up yet is Amarok. Some applications freeze everytime I get done using it, and just take up space on my taskbar. Also, half the time when I log out the screen turns black and all I can see is the mouse curser, which forces me to restart the computer. Well, to get to the point I wan't a stable distro, besides Fedora Core 4 & 5, that supports SATA drives. I've tried Slackware, Debian, and Ubuntu. When I used Fedora Core 4 it seemed a lot more stable, but I just hate Fedora right now.

Slackware supports SATA drives great.

When I tried to install slackware it said my disk wasn't partitioned and to use fdisk or cfdisk, but I had already partitioned it using Partition Magic?

I had it set up like this

sda1 Windows XP 150GB
sda2 Fat32 10GB
sda3 extended
sda4 /boot 20MB
sda5 / 30GB
sda6 Swap Space 512MB

I would boot up with the slackware cd choosing the sata.i kernel, then doing fdisk whatever your sata drive is so like /dev/sda and make new partitions save it then type in setup, add swap, add drive/format to install on, select media for installing, select packages and then done.

After install you start to conifgure your system

Arch supports SATA and it's a great distro too.

I imagine there are more that do than dont these days
