Need a distro to fit in 2gb of space
I need a linux distro that will fit in just 2gb of space and an 800MHZ AMD Duron Processor with 512mb of ram
I've tried ubuntu, too laggy and bloated I've tried fedora, fails with my drivers I've tried debian, complains about not enough space I've tried gentoo, live cd wouldn't run and I can't manually install it Any others? |
DSL, slackware ... for slack you'll have to manually decide which
packages to install (or, rather, not to). Cheers, Tink |
Whats up!!!!
Try ThorsHammer bro http://multidistro.com/hammer/fluxboxp.html http://multidistro.com/fluxboxp/fluxboxp.html http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...83#post3662683 for quick start heres the iso and zip + md5sum here's the iso 696mb with md5sum http://multidistro.com/downloads/ham...mer-090109.iso md5sum 13a06dd53cff5f593a601ba830009bc0 here's the zip, remember, it's the same as the iso just in zip form for those who don't have access to a cd burner or just wanna install to usb/hd http://multidistro.com/downloads/ham...mer-090109.zip zip md5sum c19cc79151a09a4976c1055c4551492c all will run on 256ram or less they all run fruagal persistent from hd make 2 partitions or m,ore say hda1 holds thorshammer(all or just grml-magix) 1gb (also holds saves for puppy&pmagic hda2 holds persistent store for grml-magix (make this about 800mb either label the partition "live-rw" or amke a "live-rw" http://live.debian.net/manual/html/persistence.html they all run as root too mostly You install by simply extracting the iso or zip to hd or usb and installing grub or syslinux if not already there |
Puppy will install on or can be install on only 100mb.
Edit: As Tinkster said about slackware, I'm running slackware on a PI 260 laptop. |
I think i might try puppy, but before I waste time downloading it, does anybody know if it supports Inventel UR054g 802.11g Wireless adapter's, They aren't very common, I've only seen drivers in ubuntu linux, I'm pretty unsure where to get the driver for it for linux
EDIT: Also I can't use NDISWRAPPER as the driver is on an old wanadoo disk, and the driver isnt in .inf or .drv format, its fully powered by an exe |
I have installed Fedora3 on 2 GB Hard with text mode to use fedora only in server role. Fedora gives option to select & deselect packages during installation.

hey sajidmehdi, I was going to do that, but I need to find both my graphics driver and my wireless driver before I can do that. If i find my wireless driver for fedora I'll do that
|
I'd try installing Gentoo again ... Dont use the Gentoo LiveCD, use another, and do a stage3 chroot install. I've installed Gentoo from a Ubuntu, SystemRescueCD, and Sabayon live cd's. And install either XFCE, LXDE, or any other lightweight windows manager. Easily under 2 gigs. Just delete all you dist files to free up space.
|
Try sidux. The minimal cd.
|
Ok, I've already chosen either puppy or fedora, all i need now is my wireless driver and i should be able to install
EDIT: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...8/newpost.html Posted a topic about my wireless card |
I forgot to mention Crunchbang lite #! ... Its fast and light on the resources... Its worth a check ...
