Need a distro for use on a 3GB drive

Hi,

I tried installing FC4 on an old machine with a 3GB drive but even if I installed a minimal amount of packages the installer would tell me that I didn't have enough disk space. I don't know how a 1 GB install won't fit on a drive with 2.4GB / partition but apparently it doesn't so my question is are there any distros that are small enough for a 3 GB drive?

thanks

I've had debian sarge with xfree fluxbox firefox and a few other apps. a little over 1 gig.

Slackware will easily fit in 3GB. Debian too. Depends what you install of course.

edit:
I've installed Slackware on a 128MB compact flash card (it was pretty cramped though).

If you want to be hard-core, how about Linux From Scratch. You can configure that to fit into pretty much whatever you want.

Please do not post the same thread more than once. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.
