I think the original post is Spanish though.

Here is a distro based on Debian and developed in Venezuela by the education bureau from that country

polícia

TB0ne, policing without contributing a response is harmful to the community

just because there is a 'rule' hardly qualifies it as a just rule.. i've pm'ed jeremy about rethinking this restriction, literally only to disarm policing like this and to be more inclusive of all those seeking help

and who the fuck reads forums rules before seeking help from a community anyways? why should thae? did you really read those rules before posting here? i've been using and enjoying LQ since 2010, and it took me some time to just find these rules to review them myself just now.

All member-created content should be in English. This allows our moderators to ensure all content complies with all LQ rules. In addition, we recommend you avoid sms/l33t speak in the technical fora. Avoiding sms/l33t speak will improve question clarity and increase the chance of receiving a helpful response.
all the language in that 'rule' is pretty ambiguious.. 'should' and 'we recommend' hardly qualify as 'rules' more like suggestions

i'd rather encourage someone into the community than shunning them away due to a language barrier
we would all benefit from learning a new language and the ubiquity and ease of use of translation engines, built right into our browsers even, make this even more ridiculous to criticise

here i'll help you out:

And yet you do completely the same.

Regarding the visibility of the rules, they are shown on the very first page of the registering process (where you also have to confirm that you have read them and that you will abide by them) and there is on any page of this forum a link present that directs to them on the right site in the main menu. if you have suggestions to make them more visible please open a new thread in the Suggestions & Feedback forum, every feedback is welcome.

TobiSGD, ha, was waiting for someone to say this... but come on, what point are you trying to make? are you promoting shaming spanish speakers away from this forum?

i was effectively policing the police, policing to promote inclusion

if what i'm doing bothers you then my point is being made

..also, the question was adequately answered by the time i checked on this thread, where as the post i was damning in defense of sskZeus was the first response

i always feel a post that removes a thread from zero reply ought to at least attempt to help the person asking the question

sensitive topic for me

sorry for making a vocal response in this thread stead making "suggestions regarding LQ please use the appropriate forum for that"

but i wanted my response to be visible to sskZues

like i said in my post i pm'd jeremy, also i said in my post i think the rules are fine with approrpiate levels of ambiguity and only the over zealous interpretation was at fault

the air of acceptance, empathy, sensibility and patience in the LQ community, as well as a willingness for discourse, is why i spend my time here stead the stacks where so many questions are closed due overzealous by the numbers, lazy, moderation

...and since this is an English only forum, how does posting in a language that the forum members can't understand make it possible to to contribute a response?

If you don't like the rules that Jeremy has put forth, then take that up with him.

They are displayed when you sign up, and you have to agree to them. If you didn't bother to read them, that's your fault.

No one is criticizing anyone; the rules are: post in English. Very clear, no ambiguity. No one is 'shunned'...those are the forum rules, period. If you don't like them, then start your own forum with your own rules.

I don't see how this is helping the OP.

Please edit out or remove rude language please.

I'm closing this thread for a variety of reasons ...

a) it *IS* in violation of a rule (ambiguous as some may find it)
b) it's been completely derailed by people who do take offence with it in some form or other.
