NAS mounting kickstart

I just stuck a USB stick into my DDWRT router, and want to try it as a small NAS.

Mounting (slackware) I used:

mount -t cifs -o gid=123,uid=345 //192.168.1.2/NAS1 /NAS

Which works OK, and allows me to locally access NAS. However I want to better control the mod and user/group. I suppose I should make a group nas.

What have others done? Apparently files are assigned a mod of 755 and whatever user did the mount (root, root), unless specified otherwise.

BTW, a dd of a DVD sized file gives me about 6.5 MB/s transfer with a 100 Mb/s router, so the speed is OK.

Thanks for any suggestions or discussion.

The restriction comes from using CIFS, I think. If you want Linux/UNIX permissions, you'll have to use a solution more tailored to Linux. Not really sure what you want to do with permissions on a shared filesystem.

I would like files to be generally readable and writable by anyone in the group to access the shared file system. Hmm, since it accesses through smb, that may not be possible. In that case, I would like anyone to be able to read and write to the filesystem.

Ideally, I would like to be able to control directory access, but since it is on a LAN, and I can prohibit WAN access, I am OK with everyone gets to read and write.
