NAS device


How do I detect my NAS device with an ext HDD attached, and mount the empty HDD?

Hello and welcome to LQ.

I think we'd have to know a lot more about topology and the brand and model of nas and it's abilities.

What jefro said, but generally most NASes are set up to export filesystems using NFS, CIFS, or both. You'll need to consult the documentation for your model to figure out what protocol(s) is/are supported. Linux supports both protocols out of the box, though you might need to install some additional packages. So, we'll also need to know what Linux distribution you're running on the client in order to advise you further.
