Have you looked in the naptd-0.4 folder to see if it has a configure file? Usually included is a file called "INSTALL" or "README". Have you looked at these files for compilation instructions?
cheers,
jdk

Code:
tar xvzf naptd-0.4.tar.gz
then cd to the directory.

then use configure and make:
Code:
./configure
Code:
./make
to run tests if you want to:
Code:
./make check
to install:
Code:
make install
to clean up:
Code:
make clean
i don't know about the exact program you're installing ... if you can't do this, i don't know enough about it.

I downloaded and untarred the tarball and in fact there is an INSTALL file. Anyway,it's VERY old and you need to create a link from make to gmake like this:
Code:
sudo ln -s /usr/bin/make /usr/bin/gmake
You'll need the libpcap dev package installed as well.
cheers,
jdk
