Nameserver setup?
I have been browsing this forum and a few others for a few days trying to find how to set up a name server on my server at my house. I am running apache2 on linux suse 10.0. I already have a website running from the server now, and i am not having any problem with it. all i want to do is set it up to where i can add other .com's to my server by pointing them to either my ip address or to NS1.GOTHICS-R-US.COM
Gothics-r-us.com is the domain that is already pointing to my server. I have Comcast Business Cable internet so i have to call them each time i want a domain to point to my ip address. I hate doing that so i would prefer to get my server set up so that i can just point each domain to NS1.GOTHICS-R-US.COM or whatever would keep me from having to keep calling the cable company. Thanks for your help in advance. |
That won't work; I don't think that they'd consider your machine a valid
name-server, hence changes to your local DNS won't be propagating to the world.... you'll have to bite the bullet and get name-changes done via your provider. What you're after is a naming service like zone edit that lets you point domains at ips. Cheers, Tink |
anything that will work so that i do not have to keep calling my cable provider. I hate calling them because it takes forever to get ahold of a human. :(
