N00b on Red HAt

Ok, I'm currently visiting from my Red Hat installation using Konqueror web browser. I have disabled Java and Javascript for secutiry reasons, do I really have anything to worrie about if I enable Java and javascript? caus ei know in windows some html pages use Javascript to screw with your system, but Norton catches the scripts before they can do anything.

Also, I am using A ECS Thundering Digital Sounc card and I can't hear any sounds, how can I fix my sound?

Although I have a million questions I'll post them like 2 at a time. Thanks for your support.

BTW, I'm in KDE on Red Hat 7.3

You shouldn't have any problems disabling Java and Javascript, though many sites use Javascript, you'll just not be able to do certain functions on particular sites taht use it to function properly. I usually personally keep that enabled but disable Java as its a resource hog, might cause problems when browsing at times.

Not sure about the sound card, I tried performing a search on it and didn't turn up anything though. Do you know any particular model of you card ?

Thanks MrGee, Linux already had the drivers for my PCI sound card, but I had to disable the onboard sound in the BIOS first. So my sound problem is solved.

New Problem: I download a program in a compressed archive (tar.gz) after I extract it, I see allot of files, and there usualy is a install.sh, so I runit and nothing happens. I really don't know what I'm doing when I try to install programs, please help!

Check out our glossary term on tar here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ryid=35&long=1

Kind of tells you how to install those or most at least.
