Mystery Directories!!!

I had some wierd commands in my bash_history last week and just to be sure I've just reinstalled SuSE 8.0. I've installed it many times and usually wiyh the same results, but this time I have some strange directories within my root directory. There are seven of them, named from Data1 through to Data7, this has never happened before, and I installed exactly the same way as I always have, except that this time I've used Ext3 instead of Ext2.

Could it be anything to do with that, could it be something to do with the Ext3's journaling, is this were the info is stored. I mean they're not really causing any problems, I was just wondering what they are for......

Thanks....john...

For the purpose of anybody reading this post with the same question, I have now figured out what these directories are..

I have Redhat 5.0 on another drive and for some reason my RH partitions have shown up in SuSE. I don't know why this is, but am I right in thinking that I should be able to delete these directories without any problems....

Thanks.........john

Does it automatically mount the Redhat 5 partitions there? Or are they just mount points where you can optionally mount the partitions.

You can check if they are mounted with just a simple mount command. And you can check if they have been added as mount points by looking through the /etc/fstab file.
If they are used as mount points then you would probably have to remove them from the /etc/fstab before removing the directories.
