Question MySQL root password.

Hi,

I followed the instruction in a post from this forum about the need of changing root password for mysqld:

#mysqladmin -u root password xyz
#mysqladmin -u root -h host1 password xyz

Now, the first one works fine. But the second one, it gives me this error:

/usr/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'host1' failed
error: 'Host 'host1.mydomain.com.au' is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server'

Anyone know what's wrong with it. I just reinstalled my system, and decided to setup the network/nameserver first.

I'm using slackware 9.1

Thanks.

Have you tried connecting as the first root account and updating your record from within mysql with the correct host info, etc?

I just solved it, I go to mysql, using root account, and typed:

mysql> set password for 'root'@'host1' = password('xyz');

But I'm still wondering why am I not allowed to connect to host1.mydomain.com.au MySQL server? I typed:

shell> mysql -h host1

and get this:
ERROR 1130: Host 'swief.myitsolution.com.au' is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server

This mean I cant connect to mysql server from other machine? Any idea on how to solve this? So that I can use a tool like MySQL Front, and connect to the server to do table/data manipulation, etc.

Thanks.
