start the mysql demon then

mysqladmin -u root password {giveYourPassword}

Then login
mysql -u root -p

You can use your own mysql server if you use it for test

Cool

To start mysql :

/etc/init.d/mysql start

To stop mysql :

/etc/init.d/mysql stop

To simply looging-off from mysql session, type exit or bye.
