MySQL installation
Ok, first off all I'm a real n00b when it comes to Linux....
When I'm trying to install mysql (mysql-standard-4.0.14-pc-linux-i686) on my pc I'm getting an error: First I explain what I did: 1. downloaded the files 2. 'unpacked' them with tar tar -xzf mysql-standard-4.0.14-pc-linux-i686.tar.gz 3. run the configure ./configure After this I get an error! First off all I get a lot of Information after that this: Starting the mysqld server. You can test that it is up and running with the command: ./bin/mysqladmin version root@linux:~/lamp/mysql-standard-4.0.14-pc-linux-i686/data 030827 22:30:05 mysqld ended Then it stops..... What to do?! Grtz, Bloged P.S. did it install something right now or did it just unpack it? |
You've still got to do
make make install I'd check out the installation instructions first though before I went any further either on the mysql site or if there's any readme, INSTALL files in the directory you unpacked it to ./configure set's up the environment and does some checks and you can normally pass option to it like ./configure --with-innodb and stuff like that. If it gave you an error though just doing ./configure you'll have to address the error it's telling you about. |
Late reply
Sorry for the late reply, but I went searching for another tutorial. Now I'm using this tutorial
And here it goes wrong.... ./configure --enable-thread-safe-client --prefix=/usr/local/mysql Can someone help me?! Grtz, Bloged |
Never the one to bother too much (while since I've done it) with all the configure options I do:
groupadd mysql useradd -g mysql (to add the user mysql if you don't have a user mysql on your system, although it won't do any harm if you do) if been compiling before make distclean or make clean ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/mysql --enable-assembler --with-innodb make make install cd /usr/local/mysql ./mysql_install_db (initialises stuff) chown -R root /usr/local/mysql chown -R mysql /usr/local/mysql/var chgrp -R mysql /usr/local/mysql In the directory the source code is in: cd support-files cp my-small-cnf.sh /etc/my.cnf (my.cnf is the configuration file, can use my-medium-cnf.sh or my-large.cnf.sh depending on your needs) edit /etc/my.cnf to suit your needs now your ready to startup mysql that's about as detailed as I can get and procedure I follow |
Sorry... downloaded the binary... Problem should be solved by now....
Sorry... This shows how a :newbie: I am.... Grtz, Bloged |
