MYSQL Crashing
 

Good Day All

I have a fedora 8 64-bit server and i have installed moodle 1.9 on it. During the perdiod 12am-2am in the morning, I realise that the site doesnt come up. I now realise that the issue is with mysql. When i restart the mysqld service at those times the site comes back up. Iam not sure why this is happenning. Could it be that mysql crashes? or something to that sort.

I would also love to know how to optimise mysql in a server. I realise now that as more and more students are being added to the system, the log-in time takes longer to process.

If you're going to run Fedora as a server you need to rebuild regularly (every 1-2 years) with the current version. Fedora is a development/testing platform and you can't expect it to be as stable as a server platorm. I'm not saying you shouldn't use it but you do need to keep on top of things.

um...ok..thanks for that info. Fedora is a testing platform?...I thought it was one if the better ones? If thats the case which linux distribution is a platform that can be used for server purposes?...Re the mysql issue, is there any way i can optimize mysql. I realise that i have to restart the mysql service in order for it to work?..

Distributions that are good for servers include CentOS, Slackware and Debian.

What I was trying to say is that you're running an out of date OS and the first thing most people will tell you to do is get up to date rather than try to solve a problem that may have already been fixed.
