This is your wireless card. If you do a search for "Linux" plus this card, you will find, I believe, that you need the madwifi package. I'd think this would come with Ubuntu by default, but maybe not.
If you know how to check for status of a package, see if it is installed. If not, you can download and install using aptitude or apt-get. Google is your friend.
Check the madwifi website for details on how to install.
I am not a expert about UBUNTU, but I can tell you some steps to startup your card:
1.- go to menu, SYSTEM-> ADMINISTRATION -> DRIVERS HARDWARE or something like this.
Check if there is some driver for your card, disable it and restart.
2.- SYSTEM -> ADMINISTRATION -> SYNAPTIC or something like this and install this packet: linux-backports-modules-intrepid-generic.
Restart PC.
After restart, check if wireless card is OK.
Best regards
Ok thanks for all the help but how do I find my network like in windows where it shows you all the networks in range the help on ubuntu says to go to system administration network but i don't have that the only thing i have there is network tools.
I just recently purchased a new laptop for school. Nothing wrong with the old one other than it was just alittle slow.
here is the lspci for network
lspci output:
09:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI Express Adapter (rev 01)
the only way I can get my network to work is by plugging in a Belkin USB wireless G nic before I boot then my internal atheros card begins to work. I can remove the Belkin device after boot up and the atheros continues to work. Now if i plug in the Belkin device after boot up nothing happens and no joy for me.
Im at a total loss for what to do other than continue how Im going.
Now tot he madwifi part. I have tried madwifi without any success. I bought this computer for its compatibility with linux or so I thought.
I have heard about the ndiswrapper solution but would prefer to use native drivers.
How is the compatibility with ndiswrapper and is that my only route to go for complete functionality?
-OR-
Please suggest a better way to get my atheros 5k device working properly.
