My System is screwed...Plz read on. big problem
First things first.
R-Shift+c means "right shift + c" doesnt give desired result. i.e wont print capital c (C). Lshift+c prints capital C. Also RShift works fine for every other character, but not 'c'. Whats the problem? Problem 2- Maybe connected to prob.1 Whenever i start a xterm, theres a repeated stream of ^[OS output to screen. Then whenever I use a program with messages to STDOUT, the above stuff is again shown between the messages. example: $ some_program starting some_program... ^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS ^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OSveryfying data... ^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS^[OS ^[OS^[OSclosing.. $ On command line console (no GUI), ^[[[D is output continuously instead of ^[OS I am so confused. Some evil unix daemon is after me. |
Hi.
Sounds like your keyboard's knackered. Dave |
'Please' - is not as long of a word that you need to abbreviate it, right.
I am subscribing to Dr. Ilikejam's diagnoses: Keyboard knackered. Needs immediate replacement. Might lead to TYPING-IN-ALL-CAPS if it's not receiving proper treatment. |
not so easy.
old laptop. poor finances. Typing-in-caps happened once. Any other help, Please. |
It's probably something like a spill that's got into the keyboard. You could try removing the keyboard and flushing it out. Make sure it's dry before putting it back together, though...

I have no idea how to do that on a laptop.
But I booted with a external keyboard and problem was solved. Even though external keyboard wont work, it somehow fixed the main keyboard. I also inverted my laptop and whacked it to remove anything stuck between the keys. My problem is solved for the time being, but of the 2 things listed above, I dont know what worked. The problem once reappeared after i booted without external keyboard but has booted up fine now even without the ex. keyboard. Thanks for your help. :) |
