I managed to listen an original music CD on my Suse 9.0 Pro box. Do you use the original or a copy? mzaybe the problem comes from the media itself or the file format used... In KSDC try "Configure CD Player" and select "Autoplay" (when CD is inserted).

Also try to verify if your sound card is present using YAST\Hardware\Sound : your sound card should be listed and running.

I have a copy burned in Nero. It works everywhere, my car, my windows box, my stereo in my home, everywhere.

I understand it's frustrating but a copy may work anywhere and not on a fresh installed linux box. Did you try any of the solutions I suggest?

Hope this helps!

CD-ROM drives usually have a separate audio out wire that runs straight to the audio card, separate from the wide IDE cable and the power cable. It uses this cable to stream audio from audio CDs, whereas when you play an mp3 from the drive, it sends data to the CPU, which decodes it and sends it on to your sound card. Do you have one of those cables?

If your drive can play mp3s but not audio CDs, this is likely the problem.

That could be it. I opened up my box and noticed that the cord was not plugged into the cdrom but it was plugged into the soundcard. I will keep you posted. Thanks for helping!

That was it. Man do I feel stupid! Thanks for the help!
