My startx goes kde, i want fluxbox

As of now, I've been loging in as root and using kdm to choose fluxbox. Although, i'd like to not have to use kdm (since it uses up pointless memory while running) and just have startx go fluxbox by default.

While im logged under a regular user
My ~/.xinitrc says this
Code:
exec /usr/local/bin/fluxbox
I thought that would make startx run fluxbox by default, but alas it runs KDE. If someone could point me in the right direction on what to do that would help.

Also, if maybe later in the future i wanted to choose to run either Fluxbox or KDE at slackware prompt is that possible?

If you have a local .xinitrc, you shouldn't need to edit the global file....your local settings take preference over global ones. Check to make sure your $HOME/.xinitrc file is executable and that it is properly written (all apps prior to "exec fluxbox" should have "&" at the end of the command).

For choosing from multiple window managers, you can do something like this in .xinitrc:
case $1 in
kde) WM=kde ;;
*) WM=fluxbox ;;
esac
exec $WM

"startx" should launch Fluxbox, and "startx kde" should launch KDE.

xwmconfig from the command line

choose fluxbox

startx will now start fluxbox.

cp ~/.xinitrc ~/.xsession

When invoked via startx the .xsession file
is being evaluated, .xinitrc only goes for
login managers.

???
I think you might have that backward, perhaps? I've always used .xinitrc with startx.
