My sound suddenly disappeared!?

hay you all!

Today I booted Windows after a very long time "only-Linux". After I had finished my work I rebooted to Linux again. But when KDE was starting, there was no welcome sound. XMMS did also not play, just showed this well-knows error message "Could not play...". So I tried to restart the ALSA daemon with rcalsasound restart. I tried it several times, first it said that the program is still busy, but at the 2nd try it shut down successfully. Unfortunately ALSA could not be startet again. This is the output:

thw:/home/thw # rcalsasound status
ALSA sound driver loaded. running
thw:/home/thw # rcalsasound restart
Shutting down sound driver done
Starting sound driver: via82xxinsmod: a module named snd already exists
insmod: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.21-99-athlon/kernel/sound/core/snd.o failed
insmod: insmod snd-via82xx failed
failed
thw:/home/thw # rcalsasound restart > /home/thw/alsa.log
insmod: a module named snd-ac97-codec already exists
insmod: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.21-99-athlon/kernel/sound/pci/ac97/snd-ac97-codec.o failed
insmod: insmod snd-via82xx failed
..failed

But when I restart the whole system, ALSA starts without any error messeges, not even in the system start log. If I try to play a sound with XMMS, it all seems to work (no errors etc.), I just do not hear any sound. My speaker works correct, with Windows there is no problem.

I have now completely re-installed all the ALSA-packages, without any success :-(

My system is a SuSE 9, soundcard is the VIA VT82xx AC97 which is integrated into the Elitegroup K7VZA mainboard. I did not change anything at the system, it was just a reboot...

Is there anyone who can help me, please?

greez,
thw

I think it's not package install problem
but u must configure alsa before
I'm not sure
type "alsamixer"
then adjust value( turn on some function because its default is off)
after do that then type "alsactl store"
