my pc performace decreased drastically

Hi

I am currently using linux.Yester day power cable of my cpu is burnt so my system shutdown improperly. The next time i replaced the power cable and logged in i found that it took 10-15 minutes to login. Then i opened terminal it also took 5 minutes to open ,every thing became very slow.why it is so?
I observed similar problems in the past also. Can any one help solve my problem.

Thanks
prakash

How about posting some information from the system? What have you checked? Have you looked at the log files, or tried to do an orderly shutdown/reboot of the system?

If you don't provide any information, it's hard to help you.

Look for errors in /var/log/messages. Maybe there's something there that can point us in the right direction.

Also, try memtest86+. Some livecds include it as a boot option. It can be used to check your ram.

For starters, why was the power cord burned?

Not really. A dying hard disk or hard disk controller often causes this effect.

No, it doesn't. The file system could be corrupted, or could be trying to re-mirror after a bad shutdown. The OP doesn't say if he was using LVM's or not, or anything about his hardware.

A dying hard drive or flaky controller could also be the cause...but pixellany asks the best question: why was the power cord burned?
