My own message popup on iconbar
 

Hi all,

I'd like to be informed that content of a specific directory was changed. Is there any way to make a simple notification on iconbar just like PINE makes it when new mail arrives??

I would use the inotify interface to monitor the directory and dbus to display the message and your favorite language to integrate but you didn't tell us which DE you are using.
