Terminal as root

Code:
cat /etc/modules.conf
Post results here.

Did you get this driver for the ethernet?

http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_nforce_1.0-0261

Make sure you also read the install guide. You may have to add a few lines to the modules.conf file so that it will load up on boot. That would be in the /etc directory.

Also read this from Mandrake.

http://www.mandrakeexpert.com/showarchive.php?arc=44039

This is a thread from someone who got their's working.

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...readid=103797&

I'm helping by doing searches, not experience. I hope this works out.

Some guru that uses ethernet jump in here.

Searching for more info.

Later

Opps, just found this.

Start thingy then Configuration then Mandrake Control Center, then click hardware then Hardrake. See if it is listed there. There are also config buttons in the lower right hand side. The configure module is usually OK, I would try the other first. The Run Config tool is the one I would go through. It is a wizard.

Later. Looking for more stuff.

hi, i did the root command and here:

alias sound-slot-0 snd-intel8x0
alias ieee1394-controller ohci1394
probeall scsi_hostadapter ide-scsi
probeall usb-interface usb-ohci ehci-hcd
above snd-intel8x0 and-pcm-oss
alias eth0 nvnet
alias sound-slot-1 nvaudio
alias usb-inteface usb-ohci

I am going to the other posts and reading up, i just woke up and did theat root command, hopefully ill learn something and get it working.

ty for your help so far

edit: yes, i did get that driver. i install it too.. but it seems like it dont do a thing because its only 80kb or so... is it supposed to be that small?

2nd EDIT: this is all a foriegn language. I saw this post before you posted, but i have NO clue what anything means, i was kinda looking for: Download XXXXX driver and right click and install kinda solution.. lol i am so retarded when it comes to linux.. bear with me!!!

Installed dhcpcd - not part of my initial install for some reason!

Manually ran dhcpcd eth0 - and it assigned the address appropriately - so far so good....

Manually ran ifup eth0 - and got the error

"Determining IP information for eth0... failed; no link present. Check cable?"

Check cable???? To make a long story short - the fix to my 9.1 3Com eth0 error was found by some dude (who deserves better credit than this) named Bruno Damour. His solution is described in detail in

http://archives.mandrakelinux.com/e...02/msg02555.php

The skinny is to add the following line to the ifcfg-eth0 file in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts:

MII_NOT_SUPPORTED=1

and to execute

/etc/init.d/network restart.

well i wish someone would explain why my ethernet is not working, in plain simple english. I get pointed here, i get pointed there, i get no where. now my monitor isint working cuz i threw it across the room

1)what do the experts here need from me to convey correctly what the problem is, why my ethernet is not working.

2) if linux is this much trouble, i can see why not alot of people are using it. M$ windoz is a helluva lot easier

3)I have let the setup install everything like its supposed to, and i cant even WRITE TO MY FLOPPY drive.....

whats up with this???

Hmmm, isnt that .diff patch for the 2.5.x kernels? Do any of the distros come with those kernels? COz last I checked the latest stable release was 2.4.22 ..... Just a regular installation of the nvidia drivers available and adding the alias lines whould get it working..... I think.... I did that, and I have my nvnet visible.... But, Im still using my old D-Link Realtek based card, so havent checked to see if nvnet works....I can just seei t when I do a ifconfig -a ..... If I have to test nvnet, I need to get my ISP to activate that MAC, and then he'll disable the Realtek, and Im out of a net connection until I get it working... so.... :-) But, I am prolly going to try it out sometime in the next week.... Will let u know if it works....

in the meantime, u may wanna try to get the tar file, instead of the rpm and use that.... and did u ADD those lines to the /etc/modules.conf file? Check that again.... and give another STEP by STEP 'story' of whatever u did..... after u dwlded the drivers.....

btw, 80kb drivers are fine for Linux... :-)
