My never ending FC3 sound card problem!!

Ok so i have been working on this for quite some time now.

I have the Sound Blaster PCI X (Dell OEM) sound card.

After searching the net i learned that starting with alsa release ALSA 1.0.6. they started offering support for the snd-emu10k1x. Great!!

So after a previous post i had the reply from elluva

Quote:
btw. I think kernel 2.6.11 already has alsa 1.0.7, this means that all you need to update or install are alsa-lib and alsa-utils. You should be able to skip the driver section in the docs on the alsa website.
Another thing is that for the emu10k1x, the emu10k1 drivers should work.
So what i do is try to install both the alsa-lib and alsa-utils but i find out i already have them installed.

So i continue to play around i tried alsamixer to check and see if it was muted but it told me no mixer found. Also the little speaker on the panel wont let me raise the volume it just always resortes back to the bottom.

If anyone could point me where i need to head i would appreciate it.

thanks

Not sure if this is going to help but this is what i have done

open the sound card detection program found in the setting section. play with the different options. I have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 card so i needed to select the creative lab drivers to hear the sound. But if one of the drivers worked and you hear sound it is prolly just mute problme. For some reason FD3 mutes all sound.

All you simply have to do is go to kmix and turn the sound back up.

But this is what i had to do, hopefully that helps you.

]# cd /
[root@localhost /]# find ./*|grep alsa|grep bin
./home/snake/alsa-driver-1.0.8/alsa-kernel/pci/cs46xx/imgs/cwcbinhack.h
./home/snake/alsa-lib-1.0.8/src/instr/.libs/libinstr.la
./home/snake/alsa-lib-1.0.8/src/instr/.libs/libinstr.a
./home/snake/alsa-lib-1.0.8/src/instr/libinstr.la
./sbin/alsactl
./usr/bin/alsalisp
./usr/bin/alsamixer
./usr/bin/balsa
./usr/sbin/alsactl
./usr/sbin/alsaconf

# alsamixer

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory

# alsaconfig
bash: alsaconfig: command not found
[root@localhost /]#

That is the same problem i am having with alsa.

I think i may have found the problem and i think it may be a hardware problem not software. Just a guess here but when i open my dell its sound card is not connected to the cd player but rather a small(flat) long strip that connects to a pannel near the mother board. Now from my other computers i noticed that they all jack into back of CDdrive. Could this be the reason fc can find the card but is still unable to play sounds? Well ill keep you informed of how my little experiment goes.

Best of luck

also snakeo2 what model of dell computer do you have? i have the Dimension 8250
