Question my linuxmint-14.1-mate-dvd-32bit.iso file won't boot

Hi: I'm a newbie to Linux. I've downloaded and burnt
linuxmint-14.1-mate-dvd-32bit.iso file to dvd disk
with Alcohol 120% burner,
but when I reboot Windows XP keeps opening.
On 'My Computer' page the linux image shows below DVD drive with "Install linux mint" caption so seems to have burnt ok.
Am wondering if and how to configure the BIOS boots so it will open automatically on reboot. Can someone help me?

Thank you,
Roland

Yeah usually at boot time the computer will tell you there for boot menu press a key, in some cases that key is F12. What brand and model is your computer? look for the manual online and looks for booting from CD tray.

Let us know if you do any progress with that.

"DVD drive with "Install linux mint" caption so seems to have burnt ok. "

Not a fully correct assumption. It may only suggest some file is correct.

What I'd think more is the box doesn't easily boot to a dvd or maybe burned dvd's offer some issue.

Always test download. Always burn at slowest speeds.

Yes, one of a few ways allow a device to be selected on boot. Almost always a bios edit will allow a choice to be selected above others on boot. Be sure it is a cold boot. Some reboots and some restart from hibernate may not always work.

Thank you for the responses. I finally got Linux Mint 14 running by running msconfig and checking all the options for the booting.
