my laptop fan keeps reving up


how do I stop my laptops fan from going I am jusst sitting idle with thinderbird email client and my ff webbrowser.
I didn't have this problem with windows

There's not much we can suggest based on the information provided, other than the most likely culprit is that the power management has not been properly set up. Some distros may not include power management software on an optical disc for reasons of disk space; many leave it to user to configure it and turn it on.

What distro/version of Linux are you using and what make/model laptop?

Iam on a Dell precisiion m4300 using opensuse 13.1

i8kutils will solve your fan problems on a Dell, you can watch temperatures and controll the fan speed from it.
