My java-games are very slow

I have a Mandrake 10.1 system, and I have these little java games I enjoy. On windows XP they run just fine, but when I run them under linux they are very very slow.. :( I mean, I can't play at all.. I have jre 1.4 installed.. Can anyone tell me what settings I should change ? (btw , I'm running a pentium IV, 1.6 gHz, 256 mb ram system)
thanks

Have u tried java 1.5.... Maybe things change... However please tell me what games did make you unhappy in Linux..... and where to download them. Maybe I could try and see whether I got same problem with you.

There's where I downloaded my moto trial games : http://dbernich.wildfirehq.net/games...es/trial_bike/
I also tried Tux Racer and it also runs very slow... :( it caused my sistem to crash
Ps : Take a look at the moto tiral games, I enjoy them very much :P

If tux racer caused a crash, you may need a driver for your video card. Are you using an nvidia card? That sounds like a GL or 3D issue.

As for the java, I've yet to see java run as smoothly on linux as on windows. That seems to be just a fact of life. Now, games should still be playable, just a little choppy and jumpy.

Wish I had a better answer for you...

Well, I have an Ati Radeon VL Video Card..
I did have trouble at first with detecting it.. but I guess the problem could be at the dirver

Go to
http://ati.com/support/driver.html

and see if you can find the linux driver for your card. Not sure what the number associated with your card is, so I couldn't see if it was there for you...

Good luck...
