My grub didn't work :(
 
I am poor in English~ thanks~
I used Archlinux 2010-05 ISO to install in a USB Hard Disk
ex>
/dev/sdc1 -- /
/dev/sdc3 -- /home
/dev/sdc5 -- swap

means grub and archlinux both in USB Hard Disk

but grub cannot lead archlinux.

when i reboot it(USB-HDD first).
it's just show me a grub shell...

can you understand what i want to ask?:banghead:

You don't give enough information. Did you install Grub to the master boot record of the external disk? Do you have three partitions for Arch Linux on the external disk and only that?

What do you have on any other disk on your Desktop/Laptop to which you connect the external? How do you boot any of these OSs, if any. Can you post partition information of your computer?

When you reboot, do you have the USB drive set to first boot priority in the BIOS?

I install Grub to /dev/sdc1 (/dev/sdc1 mount in /)

My Laptop have a MS XP.

My usb hard disk is 250GB,the partition is
/dev/sdc1
/dev/sdc3
/dev/sdc5

I have the USB drive set to first boot priority in the BIOS

but it just show me a grub shell,no error information.(i sure menu.lst is true)

in grub shell,i use [TAB] to look my USB Hard Disk
but it show me the partition is (hd1,0) and (hd1,4-7)
and all of them are unknown type 0x7.

Why?

From the grub shell, enter these commands and post all the output - including all messages

geometry (hd0)
geometry (hd1)
find /boot/grub/menu.lst
find /grub/menu.lst
If you can provide the menu.lst would be really useful as well.

From the grub shell
when i used [TAB] it only can show (hd1,0) and (hd1,4-7)
no (hd0)
all of them are unknow.
you still sure i should enter these commands?
if you sure,i can do it.

Yes to still entering them as none of them make changes they only query your system.
