My desktop is gone after logging in to Fedora 8

I recently installed Fedora 8 and everything worked fine until all of a sudden my desktop disappeared. It boots up fine and the login screen is normal, but once I login only an analog clock, a terminal window, and a firefox window is open. This seemed to happen after I reinstalled firefox. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello. When you log in, look for an option to select your window manager. I am not sure what you have installed but look for "GNOME" or "KDE" - select and then log in. Does this make a difference? I hope this helps.
Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I installed kde and went that route and everything works fine. I think I like Gnome better though, the only problem is that I'm having trouble reinstalling it. When I open add/remove programs, there are a bunch of apps that are marked for removal and I have to unmark them every time. I think this is what happened in the first place, I installed a few apps and didn't know that all this other stuff was marked for removal, therefore I think I must have removed some gnome components.
