Multiple problems starting Mandrake Installation

Alright, I've been working on installing Mandrake 9.2 since Friday to no avail. I first tried installing with the CD/Mandrake Bootdisk combo, but for some reason linux couldn't pick up the IDE CDROM when it was scanning for the CD. It'd always give me that 'cannot find CD on blah blah'. So I thought Id try installing from the HD. I made the new bootdisk and cleaned out my E: drive (the one I want to install it on) and put the ISO on there. It said I don't have enough memory to install from a Windows Partition, so I tried converting the hd ( E: ) into an ext2, linux format drive. Now the problem I'm running into is how to get the Linux ISO on that drive, since Windows wont even read it.

So am I way far off here, or is there something I'm missing, I'm anxious to get into Mandrake and I'd like to get it running by this weekend. Mucho love and cookies to any kind of responses.

Pentium 1 133 Mhz
48 Meg of RAM
ATI Mach64
Western Digital Hard Drive 3.5 inch Enhanced IDE (the E: drive)

Help the noob :(
