Multiple Logons

I am running Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy and trying to get familiar some of the features. If someone can tell me how I would be able to allow mutiple users to access my system. The problem I'm having is that when I attempt to logon a second user the system freezes up.
I'd appreciate any help I can get.

how are you trying to login a second person? and how do you want people to access your system? if they're physically there and want to use a gui, you will have to log out of your X session and allow them to log in. i think there might be ways to have 2 X sessions running, but if i'm not mistaken that's a little tricky.

if they just need to use a console, they can log in either from your X session in a terminal ("su <username>"), or again you can log out of X or do ctrl+alt+Fn to get to a console where they can log in. if they are remote, they can login with ssh, etc.

mutiple user / playing wmv files

Thanks for the response and I do apologize for getting back to you so late, but the holidays and other things have been keeping me pretty busy. That being said, I am able to logon to my system using more than one account and all I have to do is logout, not off, but the problem I run into when switching between accounts is that I get a memory which is hard to believe considering that I have 1GB of physical memory.
The other question I have is that I have found a media player that will play my wmv movies but the picture I get sometimes seems like it is washed out unlike the sharp picture I get with normal players on a windows system. Is there something that you know of the will clear up my picture?
