mulit users in x

10 years ago I when I used linux, before the days of xwindows, I can remember being non-root and able to logon as root, in another terminal, hack to hearts delight, and switch back and forth between users by using function keys.

I am not able to do this with knome. I can only logout and logon as root and back again(not good).

Any explanition on why would be greatly appreciated.

you can switch to a virtual term by hitting ctrl-alt-F1 or any func key between 1 and 6 and then hitting ctrl-alt-F7 will return you to xwindows. there is a way to have two x windows sessios open but I don't remember how. If this is what you want post here and I'll check the LUG mailing list archive, I know it's in there somewhere. :)

Ctrl-alt-fX still works.

To do multiple users in X I enable XDMCP in my login manager then run

X -query localhost :1

and go.
