Erm... what??  Please try to make your posts legible and sufficiently detailed.

mail gets handled in many different ways between clients and servers, largely defined by the protocol used. In general pop3 pulls all emails locally, imap leaves it on the main server. But individual clients can make this look very different.

lt m try it again

sorry, I am disabled and I only have one hand to type with. I had a stroke. The mail composed in a MUA such as elm or pine is saved where? how does sendmail pick it up for delivery? Is it saved in a special file or does it connect via smtp/ even if it is on the same host?
thanks,
rhlnewbie

My apologies in that case...

The email is necessarily saved anywhere, it's totally up to how the client is designed. It might directly write it locally so disk, or could upload a copy via IMAP to a remote sent-items folder. With a console client, the mail command itself is normally fed the email via a system call and then sendmail passes it on as it sees fit.
