MSN Messenger for linux


Hii.


I want to know about a software for RedHat linux 9.0 for chatting something like MSN Messenger, please tell me about this along with the process and steps of installation of the software.

Gaim supports many IM protocols including MSN. I you use KDE you might try Kopete, but it tends to crash randomly alot. Search on this forum about installing rpm's, I'm sure both Gaim and Kopete are in the RedHat repositories.

I use Gaim. You can get an RPM for Red Hat 9.0 here. I'm not sure how you install RPMs though, search Google for some documentation. Also, you might wanna check you have SSL installed because I think it's required for MSN.

There are other clients, like aMSN and if you have KDE, try Kopete.

rpm -Uvh gaim-1.4.0-0rh9.i386.rpm

Red Hat 9.0 doesn't use apt-get..

Not quite true - it uses apt4rpm which works in a similar way to Apt.

Ahh sorry. apt4rpm isn't installed by default though, is it?

aMSN is the closest thing to Micro$oft's MSN Messenger

I also had the same problem of MSN Messenger for linux and when after downloading when i did

rpm -Uvh gaim-1.4.0-0rh9.i386.rpm

it gave the following error

error: Failed dependencies:
libgtkspell.so.0 is needed by gaim-1.4.0-0rh9

what should i do please reply

the easiest way is using yum.

# yum install gaim

You may have to do:
# yum check-update
first, and make sure you have the repos (which you should). It should fix the dependancies as well
