Question msn isp help

ok ive been reading the boards for a bit now and i have seen people asking about the same thing but there have been no real answers so im gonna ask too.

ive installed mandrake 9.1 and it runs fine, ive had no problems but im stuck with msn internet access for now and i want to be able to dial up to it using linux, ive been using kppp and i already know i have to use the msn/username that is not a problem and i also know i have to use the CHAP protocal because thats what microsoft likes so i set it to that but it still doesnt work i keep getting error 16 something about the modem hanging up, i also know that its not my modem it works fine (not a winmodem) so there has to be something that im not doing or some other way i could do this , linus is everything ive ever wanted in an OS but if i cant get online with it, it means that i still have to use windows and im really not liking windows much anymore so any help would be greatly appreciated

also ive installed gaim and amsn and i know that most everybody has been reccomending theese as instant messaging clients for linux in the other questions about msn so im not asking about messaging clients im asking about the dial up internet access

thanks

try searching for another dialup application and see if you get similiar errors. If so then you might try reseating the modem [taking it out then putting it back in to the pc]. Also you might try seeing if there is a better driver you should be using.

it has nothing to do with your modems. Sometimes, msn uses different protocol which isnt pap or chap. I read about it in a book- i think it was called ms-chap or something like that. That book also said that there isnt anything u can do if u r dialing into such a server...i may be wrong..does anyone have a different opinion on this topic?

sounds valid to me. They may well possibly have their own protocol. You should contact their tech support to find out which authentication protocol their dial up app and server is using.
