MSEC freezing machine?

I have Mandriva 2009.1 and twice in the last week I have had hard freezes while in firefox. The window dims, and the machine locks up, no mouse movement, no num lock, nothing. Can't put the keyboard in raw mode, can't do anything but the power switch. Both freezes the last thing in the syslog is msec. I disabled in the the Mandriva service manager, but it starts anyway. I guess the question is where do I find the file with this list of boot services. I do not need this service running (I don't think)

msec checks file permissions.

You will probaby find that msec runs as a cron job. Look in /etc/cron.daily for a script that runs the msec utility. If it's not there then check the other /etc/cron.XXX directories.
