You don't. MS Office is for MicroSoft Windows. Same thing if you buy Mac software..it works on Mac's.

If your real question is "How do I work with MS Office documents?", then you install OpenOffice, for free, and that's it. You get replacements for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. You *MIGHT* be able to get it to work under WINE, but it won't perform well, and be difficult to work with.

Maybe you can try Crossover office for linux, this software its a easy way to run ms office.
If you buy it, you support wine. I'm a Openoofice user but some times, i need ms software because the .doc,.xls,... convertion to OOfiice are not good.

In all fairness, most parts from MS Office 2007 work very well with the latest wine builds (no extra hacks needed).

Sure, it's still inferior towards OpenOffice.org for daily use, but if only needed for compatibility reasons ... it's not that bad.

As for the OP's question, you just install wine and double click the .exe file.

If you need a newer wine version (1.1 or higher is recommended) see:

Maybe the OP is not forced to deal with MS Office, but just doesn't know there are alternatives?

He could use VirtualBox, too.

VirtualBox is used to run Windows on Linux, not Windows apps.

To the original question:
I have Office 2007 running on Crossover---it works very well. But--most of the time--OpenOffice is fine.

I'm not sure what "Office 7" is.

When I had VBox installed, I ran several windows apps on a guest windows machine - that's what I meant.

Of course!!---the only point is that running Windows apps in VBox requires that you own a copy of Windows----but running in WINE or CrossOver does not.

My laptop now has the epitome of overkill:
1. Windows/Linux dual-boot
2. Windows in VBox on Linux
3. CrossOver running MSOffice and a few other things

It does everything except make bread.......;)

Well first off, you already have Open Office. What part of it was not satisfactory?

If you haven't tried it, the various programs are in the applications menu.

Thank God!

I liked the idea myself. Sometimes I have to go to Windows and use MS Office for some work stuff - perhaps this could be the solution, after all. Thanks! :)
