Mplayer why won't you work

I been tweaking it but don't know if I'm doing it right
MPlayer 1.0pre2-3.2.2 (C) 2000-2003 MPlayer Team

CPU: Advanced Micro Devices Athlon Thunderbird 1350 MHz (Family: 6, Stepping: 2)

Detected cache-line size is 64 bytes
CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 1 3DNow2: 1 SSE: 0 SSE2: 0

Compiled for x86 CPU with extensions: MMX MMX2 3DNow 3DNowEx

Reading config file /usr/local/etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf
Reading config file /root/.mplayer/config
[cfg]
read config file: /root/.mplayer/gui.conf
Reading config file /root/.mplayer/gui.conf: No such file or directory

vo: X11 running at 1024x768 with depth 24 and 32 bpp (":0.0" => local display)

Reading /root/.mplayer/codecs.conf: 61 audio & 157 video codecs

Font /root/.mplayer/font/font.desc loaded successfully! (206 chars)

Using Linux hardware RTC timing (1024Hz).

Input config file /root/.mplayer/input.conf parsed: 57 binds

SKIN dir 1: '/root/.mplayer/Skin'

SKIN dir 2: '/usr/local/share/mplayer/Skin'
what does prased 57 binds?
I edit the input.conf file to enable gui all the time....
I edit the the mplayer.conf file to the right path to the skin...
don't know where to get the gui conf file?
hmmm what am I doing wrong.

2 things:

1. you appear to be running it as root - what happens when you run as a user?

2. which command do you use to run MPlayer? is it mplayer or gmplayer?

Actually, as a possible 3rd issue - I had the same problem - it worked fine on the command line but not as a gui - that was under SuSE 9 Pro. And I couldn't get it fixed.

Yup it works for command line but the gui won't work now. I tweaked it to come up in gui only and now the command line won't work.... Yup tried to run it as a user but I get that same problem......

I think (and I have no proof of this) that it is a bug in the latest version. I even tried creating the gui.conf file to try to force the system to work - but to no avail.

I wonder if anyone has got the latest version to work?
