MPlayer gui.conf

Hi all,

This is my first post here, and I think this would be the correct forum for it. I'm relatively new to slackware 10, after several years as a suse man. Anyway my question is that I'm having trouble with MPlayer and its gui.conf file (hence the title of the thread), I cant find it for love nor money
I downloaded the latest source and used ./configure --enable-gui then make and make install neither of which complained. However when I try gmplayer at the shell it cant find the gui.conf file. Am I missing something blindingly obvious here?

James

does this error prevent gmplayer from loading ?
if not ignore it. manny og mplayer config files are optional.

were there any ./configure errors ?
or any make errors ?

ive not compiled mplayer from source for a while, but do you need to install a seperate skin ?
when you install via pre compiled binaries, the skin is a dependancy, and comes seperatly.

Yeah it doesn't load at all, I get a flash in KDE that looks like a message window but it doesnt hang around. I'll see what I can get from the config.log and any errors from make and post them later. Supposed to be working at the moment

You might try the following link:

http://lfs.osuosl.org/blfs/view/stab...a/mplayer.html

This will lead you to all the right packages to be installing on your system to get most out of mplayer. Of course once you compile make install make from source there is no turning back! In an addictive sort of way.

Naturally dont use pre4. I used pre5 and had no problems compiling. By the way I dont use the gui=yes line in the conf file (that you mention, which is located in /etc/mplayer most likely) because that forces the gui all the time. Without the gui, all you have to enter is gmplayer to get the gui up and running.

Later.

Thanks everyone,

I tried the ./confgiure string in the link, had to remove the large files and pp option because it didn't like it, but this time it compiled and placed a hidden directory in / with the gui.conf file i needed, so all up and running

many thanks everyone

I suppose that I meant in the addictive sense of once youre hooked youre hooked for life.

and why use checkinstall when you can always use --prefix=/home/myhome/fxking.rip.this.off.my.drive
