mplayer codecs not found

Hi
I use Red hat FC4
After I installed mplayer, I copied the codecs from the all package into /usr/share/locale
but writing mplayer -vo help only shows those installed from scratch. Whats wrong here? tnx for help.

how did you install mplayer?

http://mplayerhq.hu/~diego/DOCS/HTML/en/install.html

Win32 codecs: If you plan to use MPlayer on x86 architecture, you will possibly need them. Download a codec package from our codecs page and put the codecs in /usr/local/lib/codecs BEFORE compiling MPlayer, otherwise no Win32 support will be compiled!

try putting your codecs here:
/usr/lib/win32/

To list available codecs:

mplayer -vc help

ahh I did put them in after install. I will reinstall it then. If i copy to usr/lib/win32/ and keeps files in usr/share/locale, would there be a problem?

I don't see a problem... If it works in /usr/lib/win32 then I don't see any need for them elsewhere...

you could use "cp" or "mv" one would delete the existing the other not...
