mplayer

Hai,

I have installed M player in rhel 5.1
It works fine from terminal...
i can successfully play using
#mplayer file.dat

But I would like to double click and play the file....
Any Idea hoe to configure that ???
Please let me know if you have any other suggestions too...

I don't want to install real player or vlc....

Install gmplayer or kmplayer. Try both ones and decide which one you prefer.
When installing, these packages should also make the correct association between file type and program

I like...

There is also smplayer, another graphical frontend that many use. I believe that the mplayer site has a list of frontends for your pleasure.

U only installed the text mode of mplayer,to play anything by double clicking u have to install the gui menus i.e. the skins etc.

seeing as you are running " rhel 5.1" - the current is 5.3 -
that it is the UNSUPPORTED rhel and you can not get updates from red hat .
look into installing CentOS 5.3

Just 'right click' on the music file ...

... and choose "Open with other...", and specify 'mplayer',
( and tick "remember" if KDE is used )
... that should be sufficient.

.....
