ok i have redhat linux 9 and im trying to use xmms, i got the plugin to play mp3s, but i plays a second of it then locks up.... is this common?

well i hope its not common, otherwise you'll have a very unpleasent music listening experience :p
open up a terminal, and type : xmms and when its opening and when it locks up, look for some unusual errors that get outputted to the terminal (if any). .. |
nope, it just kinda freezes and the bottom bar stops working, so i have to restart the comp =/

I would look at the player and at the sound server closely. First, you can try download/compiling/installing the most current version of the player. Second, you can try changing sound servers ( say, from ALSA to OSS ) and see if that helps. Third, you can just use the Yum ( yellow dog updater, http://linux.duke.edu/projects/yum/ ) to upgrade everything. Fourth, you can check you mp3 source by playing it on another computer, I read all of mine from a network drive, but maybe you are playing from a CD or some other storage device.
Just a few ideas to help you solve your problem. :) |
Did you ever get this fixed?
