Unhappy Mozilla/Koqueror Plugin Upgrades ??

Hello,

My Linux Red Hat Enterprise 3 (ES) server has Mozilla 1.4 and Konqueror browsers installed. When trying to access a certain web site, I get the following response from my browsers:
=====
A) Mozilla 1.4 Browser :

This page contains information of a type (application/x-java-applet; version=1.3) that can only be viewed with the appropriate Plug-in.
----
B) Konqueror browser :
I get a grey browser window that appears. The content is blank but gray sometimes with a message at the center that says: Error: java executable not found
=====
What is the procedure to upgrade the Java Plugins and make my browsers uptodate ?

hi

try the instructions that you may find at the following links
"http://www.fedorafaq.org/#java" and
"http://www.fedorafaq.org/#flash"

please keep in mind that instead of using the Fedora rpms (fc2) you have to use the Enterpise Linux rpms (el3)

hi

the rpms are
java -> "http://dag.wieers.com/packages/j2re/j2re-1.4.2-8.1.el3.dag.i586.rpm"
mozilla java plugin -> "http://dag.wieers.com/packages/j2re/mozilla-j2re-1.4.2-9.1.el3.dag.i586.rpm"
flash player -> "http://macromedia.rediris.es/apt/redhat/3/RPMS.macromedia/flash-plugin-7.0.25-1.i386.rpm"

For the Konqueror do the following after installing the mozilla plugins
* run Konqueror
* go Settings -> Configure Konqueror
* on the new window choose the "plugins" icon (second from the end) on the left panel
* on the right panel click "New" buttonand right your mozilla plugins home directory, something like
/usr/lib/mozilla-1.x.x/plugins (where 1.x.x the version of mozilla)
* click on "Scan for new plugins" button

It should work now

Unhappy Flash RPM Ok.

Hello again,

Only the flash RPM worked:

hi,

I am guessing that there must be something wrong with the j2re-1.4.2-8.1.el3.dag.i586.rpm that you downloaded.

Try to download the j2re from Sun's website. here: "http://java.com/en/download/linux_manual.jsp". Download the RPM selfextracting file.
To install it follow the instructions here: "http://www.java.com/en/download/help/linux_install.jsp#rpm"

Then to install Mozilla plugin follow the instructions here: "http://www.java.com/en/download/help/linux_install.jsp#14"

hi
sorry I cannot connect to the link.

check that you have java on /usr/java
check that there is a file "/usr/java/j2re1.x.x_xx/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so" (x depends on the j2re version)

In /usr/lib you will find you Mozilla home directory. It will be something like:
/usr/lib/mozilla ...or
/usr/lib/mozilla-1.4
note: if you have upgrate Mozilla you may have more than one.
For each Mozilla directory go to the plugins and check that you have a file called "libjavaplugin_oji.so". This file should be a link to the file "/usr/java/j2re1.x.x_xx/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so".
if there isn't within each Mozilla/plugins directory execute the command
Code:
ln -s /usr/java/j2re1.x.x_xx/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so
note : change the x to match your j2re version

At the end you should have in the Mozilla/plugins directory the following files:
flashplayer.xpt and libflashplayer.so ->Flash Plugin
libjavaplugin_oji.so (it is a linked file) -> Java Plugin
libnullplugin.so -> Default Plugin
