Mozilla Issue... Need a tiny bit of help
Hello I'm new to this forum and recently installed (well not really) Mandrake Linux 10.0 on to my laptop sony vaio pentium 2. After browsing through websites I FInalllly installed firefox onto my computer (or so i think...:( ) well anywho i think i did installed correctly. i'll get to the point
FIreFox Issues: After using the: tar firefox.1.0.3.installer.tar.gz, and then used the ./install firefox.installer (or something similar i don't remeber) it worked woohoo, BUT it did not make a shortcut nor did i see any icon of it... however after sucessfully finding the firefox file, it did not have the firefox icon, but when i did click on it, it acted as a firefox browser... My help: 1. is it suppose to not have a icon? 2. did i do something wrong? 3. any tips? Thank your for reading this thread and wasting your time on me :) :newbie: |
Hi inspectreo - welcome to LQ.
so then, it sounds like you have it installed and were able to run by searching for the executable? which window manager/DE are you using (KDE, Gnome, Fluxbox, etc.)? it may or may not create a menu entry, depending on which you are using, and which version. you can create a shortcut icon easily in some of them, like KDE. or you can just run it from a terminal, by typing "mozilla-firefox" or "firefox" (I can't remember which). |
I currently have KDE but I like to switch with GNOME and other ones. I guess I did install Firefox correctly then... but whats with the issue of firefox not having an icon....?
Your help=Greatly Appreciated :) |
Yes Firefox does have a icon for it, look where ever your Firefox is installed, there in there just look around.
|
in KDE, for example - try right-click on desktop -> create new -> file -> link to app
then fill in the fields for firefox. click on the icon in the dialog box, and it should present you with a selection of icons to choose from, including one for firefox.... |
