I installed fedora release 10 on my desktop using my friends DVD made out by the iso files for fedora 10 downloaded from net.
initially firefox was working just fine but after my first update process using the system updater application my firefox isn't working any more although the internet connection is established and the system updater still updates using the same internet connection.
there r some other problems also which i will ask afterwards, but please help me for this one first.
What do you mean by Firefox not working? Does it fail to start? or does it start but can't go to web sites you specify? If you want better results, try to be more informative.
As far as Fedora goes, I have an up to date Fedora 10 system and everything works fine. In case your Firefox isn't starting up, check whether there are other firefox instances running already (Applications > System Tools > System Monitor). If there are, end those processes and try again.
my problem is that the browser window does pop up but it always says connecting to my specified website and doesn't go beyond that.
as i said in my previous post when i just installed fedora 10 the firefox browser was working just fine. but now it doesn't show up any site at all.
there's one more problem i can't find a reason for it though....
whenever i update my system there forms a new copy of fedora 10 on my startup screen from where i select ths OS to work on as i hv windows installed as well...
this new copy of fedora 10 has the same version of OS but a new different varsion of kernel as it spcifies within brackets
I'm not entirely sure about what your Firefox problem is. Can't say anything much about it without further info as I haven't encountered anything like it (given that it isn't a network related problem).
The entry problem in the grub (boot menu you see in the boot sequence) is not an issue, it's a feature. It's true that you are still using the same Fedora version but whenever a kernel update happens you'll see a new entry there. That is because a new kernel is an update. For example some kernel updates bring additional hardware support and bug/security fixes, etc. In the case if it didn't work for you or you do want an older kernel you still can select it from the menu and boot. That's the idea.
If you do not like additional entries in the boot menu you can remove them:
Edit the /boot/grub/menu.lst file
Each boot entry can consist of multiple lines starting with a line named "title"
You can comment the unnecessary entries by adding a # to the beginning of the lines
If you comment them out be sure to comment everything from title line until the next title line
*NOTE* Title lines are the menu entries in the boot menu. So if you remove/comment entries, be sure to change the default boot entry number
This is defined by "default=n" where n is the number of the default boot entry you want to use. (Note that counting of boot entries starts from 0. So the 1 title line means 0, 2nd title line means 1 and so on)
